Matra 530.

I was at Carrefour a couple of days ago and saw this odd thing. I had never seen one before (in real life or in photos.) Because of the Renault wheels, I immediately wrote it off one of countless kit cars built using Renault mechanicals in the 70s.

A little bit of research revealed it's a French-built Matra 530. It uses a mid mounted 1700cc V4 Ford engine though for some reason it uses Renault hubs (and Renault 16 headlights) Less than 10,000 of these interesting looking cars were sold from 1967 to 1973.

Just found your site. Love it! This would be the same engine as was used in the Saab 95, 96, and Sonett when Saab did away with the two stroke engine, right?
